We also started new bell work for the month. In a pink notebook there are little assignments to finish each day. Today's assignment was writing a paragraph about 5 New Year's Resolutions. Most of you were able to follow the model in class. The focus of the bell work is CORRECT MECHANICS (spelling, punctuation, grammar, capital letters) and explaining thinking in math.

Math
Today we reviewed the different ways to represent decimal numbers using:
  • number lines
  • pictures
  • base ten blocks
  • metre sticks
  • coins
Represent 1.08 using each of the above ways for practice.

We will continue with measurement this week. After two weeks holidays, we will review units of length before continuing with perimeter.

Please fill out your assessment folder and get your math test signed. There are a few questions I'd like to go over with each grade when the entire class is present.

Social Studies
Why did people IMMIGRATE to the Interior Plains hundreds of years ago? Why do people immigrate there today? Two reasons for each time period were discussed in class.

I hope everyone finds the brochure a little easier now. Everyone has the document set up. It is much easier if you complete the brochure starting from the panels on the left and moving to the panels on the right of the page.

Religion
What do we celebrate on the Feast of the Epiphany?
Questions to think about for tomorrow:
For whom did the star shine?
What is the message / big idea of the gospel reading?
Two video clips below. One the kings visit Jesus as a newborn, the other Jesus is older.

Treat for all students who find out the names of the three kings!

Health
Thank you to students who brought in labels. If you haven't brought in a food label, please try to have one for tomorrow. If you can have two of the same kind of food that would be AWESOME. For example two cereals, granola bars or snacks. Try to include the INGREDIENTS as well.

Reminders
  • Indoor shoes and gym clothes for tomorrow!
