Science
On Friday we talked about CHEMICAL changes. What are some signs of a chemical change?
explosion
light
heat
new substance
gas
colour change
combustion (burning)
Chemical changes are irreversible. You cannot get the original material back.
Examples of Chemical Changes
- Burning wood
- Souring milk
- Mixing acid and base
- Digesting food
- Cooking an egg
- Heating sugar to form carame.
- Baking a cake
- Rusting of iron
On Monday we will be observing a chemical change involving the reaction of baking soda and vinegar.
We also touched on THE LAW OF CONSERVATION OF MASS.
Be prepared to complete your investigation Monday morning.

DIFFERENT MEANINGS OF
MULTIPLICATION: Example 7 x 3 = 21
Equal Groups:
Repeated Addition:
7 + 7 + 7 = 21 or 3 + 3 +
3 +3 + 3 + 3 + 3 = 21
Skip Counting:
7, 14, 21
3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21

Word Problem:
Mr. Morson bought 3 packages of gum. Each package had 7
sticks of gum. How many sticks of gum did he buy?
FAMILY OF FACTS:
Example 3, 7, 21
3 x 7 = 21
7 x 3 = 21
21÷ 3 = 7
21÷ 7 = 3
RELATING MULTIPLICATION AND DIVISION FACTS:
Example: How can you use 6 x 4 = 24 to find 6 x 8?
6 x 4 is 4 groups of 6, so 8 groups of 6 is double 4 groups
of 6
6 x 8 = 24 + 24 = 48
Example: How can you use 36 ÷ 6 = 6 to find 36 ÷
3?
36 ÷ 6 is
dividing 36 into 6 equal groups, 36 ÷
3 is dividing 36 into 3 equal groups so there should be twice as many in each
group.
36 ÷ 3 = 6 +
6 = 12

RELATING
MULTIPLICATION AND DIVISION FACTS:
Example: How can you use 6 x 40 = 240 to find 6 x 80?
6 x 40 is 40 groups of 6, so 80 groups of 6 is double 40
groups of 6
6 x 80 = 240 + 240 = 480
Example: How can you use 360 ÷ 6 = 60 to find 360 ÷
3?
360 ÷ 6 is
dividing 360 into 6 equal groups, 360 ÷
3 is dividing 360 into 3 equal groups so there should be twice as many in each
group.
360 ÷ 3 = 60
+ 60 = 120
