Social Studies
Today the grade fours read some interesting information about the roles of the family members in Ancient Rome and Judea. Both societies were PATRIARCHAL. Do you remember what that means? I bet most of the girls do! All the major decisions and everything and EVERYONE was property of the father or oldest male. If the father had to pay a debt, he could sell his children into slavery! Tomorrow you will be given time to work on your mind map, showing the roles and responsibilities of the family members in either Ancient Rome or Judea, and in your own family.

We also touched on rights and societies of children in the world today. Here is a link to the rights of all children. I think I will print this out for you.

Grade fives will be given time to finish their comparison chart of the Wendat and Innu. We will also begin talking about spirituality in First Nations communities. Your mind map is due Friday.

Math
Circle or pie graphs were the topic today. It is part of the grade five curriculum, but the fraction part is part of the curriculum for both grades. When we read circle graphs, we need to know how many equal parts the circle is divided into before we can make conclusions. We also need to know the number of people surveyed.

Grade 5:

Here's an interesting question about mean:
Both grades:
Grade 4:
Genius Hour
You will be given a double period tomorrow (Thursday) and half a day on Friday to complete your project. Some students had difficulty with laptops. You are able to access your Google Drive at home or work on your project at recesses or after school.

Health
The game shows are starting to take shape. We'll let a few more groups "rehearse" tomorrow. We'll try to make time to practice again on Friday. Remember: YOUR QUESTIONS MUST BE ABOUT THE LONG AND SHORT TERM EFFECTS OF SMOKING (grade 4) AND ALCOHOL AND FACTORS THAT AFFECT INTOXICATION (grade 5). Although there are many interesting facts about cigarettes and alcohol, I will only be accessing you on these categories.

Reminders:
  • Data Management test on Friday.
  • Items for "Book-Lovers" basket. FYI: We have "several" bottles of wine :)
  • Some students indicated that they paid for Track and Field online. There was not an option to pay online. Please remit $3.00 ASAP.
  • We have a few seats available for the end of the year trip to the Ontario Science Centre. Please let me know if you'd still like to travel with us on the bus!
