Literacy
Everyone finished their summary of "The Frog Chef" on sticky notes. Use your sticky notes to practice summarizing the story out loud. Link different events using transitions words. Here are some examples of transition words:

During our next Literacy class you will be writing your summary in your notebook using your sticky notes. Remember a summary is SHORT. Some of you wrote quite a bit on each stick note....
We will be having reading groups on Thursday due to the cross country meet tomorrow. You will have a second focus question, summarizing the story. You will be given shorter (and easier) stories to read tomorrow to help you learn the skill of summarizing.

Math
Today we talked about GROWING or INCREASING  patterns and shape patterns with different attributes. Attributes include: colour, shape, size and orientation (directions).
In grade 5 you created increasing shape patterns that you used to create number patterns. Make sure you use a t-chart to record the size of the letter and the number of bulbs it uses.

Please keep your math notebooks neat and organized.

Religion
We used our rocks today to write a rock story from the perspective of the rock. Most of you completed at least the first paragraph. We will continue writing after cross country during Library.

Science
Living things can be classified as PRODUCERS or CONSUMERS. What is the difference between a producer and consumer? Plants are producers. They make their own food.
There are different types of consumers:
You can add a fifth..... DECOMPOSERS.

THIS IS THE VIDEO WE WERE SUPPOSED TO WATCH TODAY..... OOPS!

 A little game to play.....

Make sure you can give three examples of animals that are herbivores, omnivores, carnivores, decomposers, scavengers and producers.
Reminders:
  • Cross country tomorrow. Please check the blog and the Board website (www.ldcsb.ca) after 7:00 am tomorrow morning to make sure it isn't cancelled.
  • Remember to bring: lots of water, snacks, big lunch, something to sit on, a hat, something to keep you amused for a few hours.
